Austine Eguavoen is set to charge of the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic and Amavubi of Rwanda.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has delayed the appointment of a new head coach for the Super Eagles after announcing it will employ an expatriate in June.

The Super Eagles will begin their quest for a place at AFCON 2025 with an home game against neighbours Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7.

The three-time African champions will visit the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali to keep a date with Rwanda three days later.

Completesports.com scooped from a reliable source at the NFF that is impossible to employ a new head coach for the Super Eagles before the games against Benin and Rwanda.

The source further said Eguavoen, who is currently the technical director of the NFF is in line manage the team for the two games.

“The whole thing is quite messy at the moment. It’s unfortunate that we don’t have a coach in place less few weeks to the AFCON qualifiers, ” the source told Completesports.com.

“As things stands now, the only option is for Eguavoen to lead the team in interim capacity for the two games.

“It is something the NFF is considering at the moment and it is the only viable option.

Eguavoen it would be recalled led the Super Eagles in interim capacity at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon where they were knocked out in the Round of 16 by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
