Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano expects Casemiro to leave Manchester United for a club in Saudi Arabia this summer, but has defended the struggling Brazilian as he heads towards what is surely the end of his disappointing spell at Old Trafford.

Casemiro has had a fine career at the highest level, becoming part of a legendary Real Madrid midfield and winning the Champions League five times while he was at the Bernabeu, and Romano described him as a ‘legend’ even if his time in the Premier League has been underwhelming.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano made it clear that there is Saudi Pro League interest in Casemiro, even if he can’t name the specific clubs chasing the 32-year-old just yet, while United are also open to letting the player go.

Casemiro looks set to leave Manchester United

Casemiro has been in the spotlight recently for some bad errors during defeats to Crystal Palace and Arsenal, but Romano insists he feels that there is a long list of other big names who’ve struggled for the Red Devils, so it’s not specific to any one player.

Casemiro defended by Romano as Saudi transfer looks likely

“Saudi clubs really want Casemiro, but we’ll have to see which clubs, and how much they want to invest in terms of salary,” Romano said.

“But the interest from Saudi is there, and also United are open to letting Casemiro leave, so there are very good chances to see Casemiro moving to Saudi this summer.

“Casemiro has had a difficult time at United, but in my opinion, Casemiro remains a legend of the game for what he did at Real Madrid. At Man United all players are struggling, not just him… it’s a general problem, not a single player.

“We could mention 15 players not performing well for United, and many things not working.”
