Fabrizio Romano still believes that Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim currently looks the slight favourite over Brighton’s Roberto de Zerbi in the race to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that his information is still that Amorim seems more likely than De Zerbi to take over from Klopp, even if the Reds boss undoubtedly raised an eyebrow or two by being so full of praise for the Italian tactician after coming up against him in the Premier League yesterday afternoon.
Liverpool beat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield in a close contest, with De Zerbi’s side showing all their usual quality and clearly impressing Klopp, who gave a lot of credit to the Seagulls boss after the game.
We’ll know for sure a bit later if this was Klopp hinting that he’s approving De Zerbi as his successor, but for now Romano is sticking with his information that Amorim looks the favourite to come in next for LFC, while Bayern Munich could be one to watch with De Zerbi.
Will it be Amorim or De Zerbi as Liverpool miss out on Alonso?De Zerbi or Amorim for Liverpool?
Discussing the Liverpool manager situation, Romano said: “Despite the links with De Zerbi as Klopp’s successor, I keep repeating my position on that – I’m told that Ruben Amorim is the favourite option for now. De Zerbi has been on the list for Liverpool for some time as well, but there’s still no development so far.

“Let’s also see what Bayern will decide to do, but it’s still time for internal talks at Bayern on who will replace Thomas Tuchel, and nothing has been decided yet.”
De Zerbi has surely earned his chance at a top job, and it would be interesting to see what he could do with this Liverpool side, though he also surely makes sense as a good option to try to get Bayern back to their best after a difficult season.
