Chelsea are not currently in talks over selling Marc Cucurella or Ben Chilwell, according to Fabrizio Romano as he spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column.
Simon Phillips has reported that Chelsea could be open to letting the two left-backs go this summer, with Manchester United named as potential suitors for them both, but it seems Romano is playing down this talk for now.
The Italian journalist even hinted that Cucurella’s situation may have changed as well, with the Spaniard improving his performances in recent times after initially making a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge.
Still, Cucurella looked a top talent during his time at former club Brighton, so perhaps after a bit of a tricky settling-in period he’s now finding his feet in a Chelsea shirt as well, and there won’t be any need to move him on this summer.
What next for Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell?Cucurella and Chilwell not currently in talks to leave Chelsea
Discussing Cucurella and Chilwell, Romano said: “One more point on Chelsea – despite some talk about them being open to selling both left-backs Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell this summer, there are no negotiations or talks for either Cucurella or Chilwell at this point.
“Chelsea are not negotiating for them, and also Cucurella is doing very well so at the moment the situation is still quiet.”

Some CFC fans might well think it’s worth keeping Cucurella now, but Chilwell’s injury struggles surely mean it’s worth considering offers for him if they come in.
Although the former Leicester City man has plenty of quality when he’s at his best, he’s perhaps just not reliable enough, and that’s a major issue in a squad that already has other injury-prone players like Reece James and Christopher Nkunku, who have both missed large chunks of the campaign.
