Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has responded to stories about Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon being a possible summer target for Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that he’s not currently aware of anything concrete happening with this one, as Newcastle are yet to make a final decision on Gordon’s future.
Romano did suggest this might be one to watch again in the next few weeks, so perhaps the England international’s future remains open to a certain extent, even if it’s not as advanced as some other media outlets have suggested.
“Another Newcastle story I’ve had some fans asking me about is the situation with Anthony Gordon,” Romano said.
“He’s been linked with Liverpool by some outlets and I’m aware that we also keep hearing about Newcastle needing to sell some star names because of Financial Fair Play.

“However, as of now I’m not aware of Newcastle considering to sell Gordon. I don’t have this info, let’s see if the situation changes in the next weeks but Newcastle have not made any decision on Gordon exit so far.”
Gordon transfer: Could Liverpool really sign the ex-Everton man?
Liverpool fans would surely welcome the signing of a proven attacking player this summer, but we’re not sure they’d be too pleased with bringing a former Everton player to Anfield.
Liverpool and Everton have a fierce rivalry and it’s extremely rare to see players representing both clubs, so perhaps for that reason alone we can rule this one out, unless something crazy happens in the next few weeks.
Newcastle fans will surely be hoping Gordon stays after his fine form at St James’ Park, but it remains to be seen if the Magpies will be forced to make a decision on selling one or two stars this summer for Financial Fair Play reasons.
