Whomever takes over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool this summer will need to hit the ground running in terms of the make up of his squad.
A fire sale at Anfield is unlikely, and nor would it help anyone to have a new broom completely sweeping the Klopp era away, though a tweak here and there will absolutely be needed in order to re-energise the squad and give it some more depth.
One player that was linked with the Reds and also with Man United back in December according to Calciomercato was Inter Milan sensation Marcus Thuram.
Liverpool target Marcus Thuram’s release clause not as reported
That’s despite the player only having joined the recently-crowned Italian champions last summer and having a contract with the Neroazzurri until 2028.
The 26-year-old has been in fine form since signing for the club, scoring 12 goals and assisting for 11 more in 31 games per transfermarkt.
To that end, it won’t be a surprise to find many of Europe’s top clubs interested in his services, particularly as it’s believed that he has a release clause.
As Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing, however, the terms of the clause don’t appear to be what’s being reported elsewhere.
Marcus Thuram is a target for Liverpool“I’m told that Marcus Thuram has a clause in his contract, but that it’s slightly different to the €95m figure that’s been reported,” he said.
“But I will be more clear about details as soon as I can. So far, the situation with the player is very quiet – Thuram loves being at Inter, Inter love Thuram too, so the situation is completely quiet there.
“Inter are planning with Thuram as a starter also for next season. He has really impressed me this season, playing as central striker in a 3-5-2 system wasn’t easy but he’s doing fantastic.”
For both Liverpool and Man United, their managerial issues need to be sorted in the first instance before any in depth transfer business can get underway.

It’s also worth pointing out that Thuram may have been a candidate to join Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, but now that the German is going, any new incumbent may have completely different ideas to his predecessor.
With the end of the season just over a month away, things are likely to become clearer at that point.
If the player is evidently available for a price, and the new man in charge considers Thuram an essential purchase, only then will discussions begin.
