Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Real Madrid will have a decision to make on the future of Joselu soon as his loan deal approaches its end.
The veteran Spain international has performed well since moving to Madrid on loan last summer, and it remains to be seen if Los Blancos will take up the option to sign him permanently.
There has also been speculation linking Joselu with Manchester United, who could do with a new striker, but Romano has played those links down as he spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column.
The transfer news journalist insists he cannot confirm the Joselu to Man Utd links for the moment, but it seems the player’s future has still not been decided, so perhaps this could be one to watch for the Red Devils at a later stage, even if nothing is happening now.
Joselu celebrates a goal for Real Madrid
Romano said: “Real Madrid have not decided anything on making Joselu’s loan permanent just yet, but with Endrick coming and the Kylian Mbappe deal close, for sure they need to discuss many things internally about offensive players.
“Despite some links with Manchester United, I have zero confirmation of their interest for the moment.”
Joselu transfer: Do Man Utd need the 34-year-old striker?
Joselu has been prolific for Real and looks like someone who still has the potential to decide big games at the highest level, so one imagines he’d surely be a good squad option for United next season.
MUFC have been overly reliant on Marcus Rashford for goals for a while now, and with the England international’s form drying up this season, that’s also placed a lot of pressure on young Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Bringing in someone like Joselu as a more experienced option to provide cover could be a smart short-term option for the club, though they might also decide it would be better to invest more money in a longer-term option.
