Mukesh Chhabra is a well-known casting director in Bollywood who has done the casting for films like Rockstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dangal, Jaawan, and more. During a recent chat with Bollywood Bubble, Mukesh got candid about whether it’s helpful for actors to do back-to-back projects for visibility. He also spoke about Kai Po Che and the different actors who auditioned for the Sushant Singh Rajput starrer.
Mukesh Chhabra on actors doing projects for visibility
When asked if featuring in several projects helps in getting more projects, Mukesh Chhabra said, “Baar-baar dikhoge, uske baad bhi acting nahi aati to kya matlab hai? Main hamesha bolta hoon, jitney bhi logon ke saath maine kaam kiya hai main unko mila hi nahi. Dangal ke time main Fatime Sana Shaikh aur Sanya Malhotra ko pehli baar mila tha. Triptii Dimri ko pehli baar Laila-Majnu ke auition ke time. Aise kitne log hai jinse mein pehle mila hi nahi hoon. Kyunki baar-baar milne se kaam nahi hota. (But if you keep showing up and still don’t have good acting skills, what’s the point? I always tell the ones I have worked with, I have not met them before. Like I met Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra for the first time during Dangal. I even met Triptii Dimri first time during the Laila-Majnu shoot. There’s a misconception that you need to be seen repeatedly to get work.”
Hamara kaam hai talent dhoondhne ka, aur wo audition karke hum logon ko bula lenge. Itne saare log jo Bombay mein achha kaam kar rahe hain, jaise Vijay Verma, us time se kaam kar rahe hain jab social media bhi nahi tha. Toh kaha dikhte the. Yeh log acha audition dete the. (Our work is to find good talent, which we do by calling people for auditions. Many people working in Mumbai today, like Vijay Verma, are doing great work. They have been working since the time when even social media was not there. But all they did was give great auditions).
MC on Kai Po Che auditions
When asked about auditioning Vijay for Kai Po Che, the casting director said, “Vijay Varma, Ayushmann Khurrana, Ali Fazal and Angad Bedi had also auditioned for Kai Po Che. It was an amazing experience. At that time my office was very small, and everyone came here. Today, I am happy to see that they have become big stars and are doing so well. They worked hard back then, and they still do.”
