Read on for a glimpse into our Hindi conversation with him.

Rajpal on Kaam Chalu Hai & his character

Talking about his soon-to-release Zee5 film, Rajpal Yadav said, “Kaam Chalu Hai is not the story of a specific location/locality, it’s a universal topic. In life, work is always in progress – be it physical, mental or in any other form.”

He continued, “As an actor, I can tell you that playing this part in the film has made me feel lucky. My Kaam Chalu Hai character has a voice, he is a strong character who advocates ‘Savdhani Hati Ta Durghatna Ghati (If you lose focus mishaps are bound to happen)’ He has a social awareness around him that work needs to go on but safety measures have to be in place. Cause if they aren’t, then mishaps are caused and people can get hurt. The film is the story of a common man.”

Talking about facing any issues while making the film, he said, “The team did commendable pre-production work. It was so well done that we didn’t face any problems when the shooting was underway.”

Rajpal on the film going to Cannes

Expressing his happiness on Kaam Chalu Hai being premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Rajpal Yadav said, “I am extremely grateful to IMPAA (Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association) for liking the film and recommending it be screened at the prestigious film festival. I have been invited to the festival earlier but I always wanted to attend it with a film, and I’m getting to do it now. I’m very happy that the film is going to the prestigious festival. I’m grateful and happy that the film is being recognized and getting this much respect – thank you IMPAA. It means a lot.”

He added that having Kaam Chalu Hai premiere at the Cannes Film Festival feels like being born again. He said, “It is a prestigious place for any film to be screened. It is like the trade centre of films, so to have the film go there is humbling and prideful. I feel very happy that I’m able to present such a good, content-centric film on such an international platform, and it’s all thanks to Bollywood and IMPAA suggesting the film go to the festival. It will resonate with people all over the world irrespective of their class.”

Rajpal Yadav added, “Today the whole world is like a village and everyone knows about everything, so I always wanted to take this film to everyone.”

Rajpal on sustaining injuries on sets

When asked if there were similar instances like the one he went through while shooting Priyadarshan’s Chup Chup Ke – where he was actually hit, Rajpal Yadav said, “There were many instances when similar things happened. During the filming of one movie, people had to hit me with sticks. While most were props, there were a few real lathis too and I hit with them.”

He continued, “During the filming of Malamal Weekly, I always had a major accident. While making Jungle, I sustained a lot of wounds, cuts and scratches as there were a lot of stones all around. While the boulders and big rocks were made of thermocol, the smaller things (stones and sticks) hurt. If you want to deliver a believable performance you have to suffer a little.”

Rajpal Yadav upcoming projects

Rajpal Yadav has several film in the pipeline. It includes Zee5’s Kaam Chalu Hai, Son, Bhool Bhulaiya 3, Welcome to the Jungle, Ghamasaan and Journey.
