In the year 2024, Rakul Preet Singh completes her 10 years of being a Bollywood actress. She had worked in South already and after giving a success in her Bollywood debut movie Yaariyan, she moved back there. Rakul made a full fledged return to Hindi films with the 2019 film De De Pyaar De. But in that 5 year gap, Rakul Preet Singh said no to many Hindi offers, including MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress opened up on the same.
Rakul Preet Singh on losing out on Sushant Singh Rajput starrer MS Dhoni
During our conversation, we asked Rakul how she managed to keep working between Hindi films and South. She said, “Initially it was very tough. I was shooting for De De Pyaar De here after like a gap of four years, because I was constantly working there. So I couldn’t find time for doing films here. I couldn’t do MS Dhoni because of dates.” Her role was eventually done by Disha Patani in the film.
Rakul revealed having to pull out of the Sushant Singh Rajput starrer at the end moment and then regretting it. “I had signed Dhoni, everything was done, fittings were done and then they pushed the schedule by 20 days. And I couldn’t, because at that time I had Bruce Lee that was going to release and we had to shoot a song. I was doing two films simultaneously with Ram Charan and Jr NTR. So, I could not have taken out dates in that schedule, it was an outdoor. I have cried saying ‘how could…’. So, there were 2-3 films that, at that point I was so packed, I couldn’t (do).”
On letting go of South films…
The reverse happened when she was working on Luv Ranjan’s De De Pyaar De with Ajay Devgn. This time, Rakul had to let go of many South offers. The actress shared, “When I was doing De De Pyaar De, that’s when I was here because Luv sir works like that, more dates and things. So, I had to let go of a lot of films in Telugu and it was heartbreaking.”
She added, “For me, even today, not being able to do as much as I want to do is very heartbreaking. I know that there is a huge, like in South the fandom is very different. The messages that I see on social media ‘when will we see you on Telugu screen?’. So, now I have a release there but I just feel like I wish I could be at more places and do equal number of films here and there. But it’s not practically possible.”
Rakul has had quite a busy last few years. Currently, she has some interesting projects in the pipeline including a film with Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar. She also has Indian 2 with Kamal Haasan.
