Shahid Mallya on getting replaced by Arijit Singh

When asked if he was replaced by other singers, Shahid recalled a time saying that a composer had to let him go and made the song sung by another singer who had good Spotify followers. “I told them that when you called me in for the song, didn’t you check who has the most followers? This was such a useless answer. The composer should believe in himself and the singer. They should have 100% faith in their singers. If we get to see their followers then there are many useless singers. Make them sing all the songs, those who do not know musical notes and sargam,” he told us.

He then says that when a singer sings a song, they’re attached to it and are hopeful that the song will be released with their names. You are anticipated to hear the song in your vocals till the movie is released but then you realise that the song is being crooned by someone else. It was very humiliating. Recalling an incident, Shahid Mallya revealed that Channa Mereya song from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was originally sung by him. However, he was then replaced by Aitijit Singh.

Do saal tak dekha maine ki wo gaana Pritam sir ke studio me tha aur 3-4 din pehele mujhe bulaya aur zahir kiya ki ‘Shahid we are really sorry for this, production wanted another singer to sing this song toh unhone Arijit se gawaya’. Gaane ko janam dene wale Pritam da, jaan dene wala mein aur likhne wale Amitabh Bhatacharya. Wo sab change nahi huye but me ho gaya. Dil bohot toota mera.” Adding that he was heartbroken when the song was sung without him but he was happy and content that Arijit Singh crooned the song.
