Next week could be the biggest of the summer for Man United.

Ever since the 2023/24 campaign concluded, the powers that be have been conducting an end of season review, to determine what the best steps to take are over the remainder of the summer.

This was always likely to include decisions on which players should stay and which should be sold, as well as a more general review of the club’s spending in that area over the past few years.

Man United have to get their end of season review right

In essence, were and are the club targeting the right type of players for the football that Sir Jim Ratcliffe et al expect to be played at Old Trafford.

Arguably their biggest decision is on whether manager, Erik ten Hag, stays at the club or is moved on.

Depending on your point of view, there are cogent arguments for both scenarios.

A stunning FA Cup win over rivals, Man City, showed that when the Dutchman has many of his better players in situ, they are still a force to be reckoned with.

That’s always been his contention. A serious run of back luck regarding injuries would’ve hamstrung any manager.

However, that still doesn’t get away from some of the turgid performances that his players put in across the season, and it falls on the manager to motivate them so it doesn’t happen.

Only it did happen. Repeatedly.

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, believes that next week is crucial for ten Hag.

“Man United’s end of season review is set to conclude next week, and we wait for their decision on Erik ten Hag. For sure the review is on the manager… and also on more key topics,” he said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.

“Injuries are being discussed, also the transfer strategy from recent years, because Man United want to improve in many areas.

“Of course, the manager decision is the key one.”
