Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is keen to return to another job in management as soon as he leaves the Allianz Arena at the end of this season, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest column in the Daily Briefing, Romano explained that Tuchel had plans to return to coaching as soon as possible following the news that he’d be leaving his current position at Bayern this summer.
Romano acknowledged some links with Barcelona, who are also set to make a change at the end of this campaign following the recent announcement that Xavi would not be staying on at the Nou Camp.
However, it seems it’s a bit early to know for sure who Barca will be looking at to replace Xavi, with Tuchel the latest name, along with former Germany manager and another ex-Bayern boss Hansi Flick.
One imagines Tuchel could be a strong candidate for a big club like Barcelona, but it will likely become clearer later if he’s going to be one of their preferred options, or if he’ll have to look elsewhere for his next job in football.
Thomas Tuchel is leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season
“Tuchel wants to stay in football and return to managing as soon as possible, for sure,” Romano said.
“There have been links with Barcelona, but let’s see what Barca want to do, as I told you about Hansi Flick they will take their time to decide and consider the options they have available. But for sure, Tuchel wants to return to coaching immediately after leaving Bayern.”
What next for Thomas Tuchel after Bayern struggles?
Not long ago, Tuchel would surely have been considered hot property after becoming available like this, but his time at Bayern has been troubled and it’s no longer clear if he’d walk into another top job.
The 50-year-old won the Champions League with Chelsea a few years ago and many fans were disappointed to see him sacked by the Blues last season, but his stock has certainly fallen since then.
