Tusshar Kapoor made his debut in 2001 with Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai which turned out to be a blockbuster. It was a remake of the Telugu super hit Tholi Prema where he starred opposite Kareena Kapoor. He even received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his work in the film. However, Tusshar Kapoor is now known for his role as Lucky in the Golmaal franchise. Without speaking a single dialogue in the movie, he garnered immense love and recognition from fans for the same. During an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kapoor spoke about how Golmaal became a turning point in his career.
Tusshar Kapoor on doing Golmaal franchise
When asked if Golmaal played an important in his life more than his debut film, Kapoor said, “My debut film is obviously going to be close to my heart. Maybe people are associating me with Golmaal more than usual. But in the Hindi heartland, I think I’m still remembered for Mujhe Kuchh Kaha Na quite a bit. Back then, when social media didn’t exist, the film was released, and there was such a craze that I used to receive letters—those blue-coloured ones that were sealed—fan mail. So, I think that was a very different audience, especially from small towns, who still remember that film. They may not be on social media, or they might be, but that’s a different kind of success. I don’t think anything else can replicate that for an actor because it was a solo hero film for me.“
He further continued, “But yes, Golmaal has been like a lifeline for sure. I think I needed something like that—critically acclaimed and at the same time commercially successful. It happened, and I’m glad I took the chance of doing a multi-hero film with a character without any dialogue, solely in comedy. And the rest, I think, is history. As far as things beyond the control of the universe are concerned, they are not in my control but in the universe’s control. So, one could say that my luck was good at that time, or there was no bad luck when I did Golmaal. It was a very good step that I took, and I’m grateful to the entire team.“
