The Newcastle United contracts situation is in a very healthy position (see below).

Last month we saw United trigger an extra year on Dan Burn’s contract, meaning that takes him now up to 30 June 2026.

That was then followed by reports across the media saying that Newcastle United were doing the same with Sean Longstaff, having also had the ability to trigger an extension with him, up to 30 June 2026.

Those media reports though also said, that as well as the contract extension, United were in talks to sort a new longer-term contract with the Geordie midfielder.

Now Fabian Schar asked what is set to happen with his position…

Fabian Schar currently sees his Newcastle United contract end on 30 June 2025, blue Sport asking yesterday (13 November 2024) if this points to his departure from NUFC in just over seven months time?

“I feel super comfortable at Newcastle.

“I have been playing for years and I have a coach who backs me.

“Everything is right for me.

“I would love to stay.

“The club and coach know what they have in me.

“Basically, it [a contract extension] has always happened relatively quickly in recent years.

“The club wanted to keep me, I wanted to stay.

“That’s why it has never been a big deal.

“There are more complicated cases than mine.”

Fabian Schar asked about the fact that in previous interviews he has said he would love to one day come back and play for FC Basel:

“I always said that at the beginning, when I went abroad, that I would love to do it.

“At the moment, however, I feel extremely comfortable [at Newcastle United] and am not thinking about coming back.

“But if I were to play football in Switzerland again, I can only imagine it with FCB.”

In this blue Sky interview, Fabian Schar also making clear that talks are set to happen on an extension to his current deal.

I think this will be very much a case of a repeat of what we saw announced back in January 2024, in terms of another year added…

Fabian Schar commenting on 8 January 2024 after agreeing a one year extension with NUFC to take him up to 30 June 2025:

“I feel really at home here, I feel so comfortable living in Newcastle.

“I love the city and I love playing for the club and the incredible fans.

“I can’t say enough how much I love them, and how much their support means to me.

“Playing for this team where I feel so comfortable with all my team-mates and with the coaching staff feels really like a family for me, so I’m really grateful to stay here a bit longer and hopefully to have some more exciting times.”

Fabian Schar will turn 33 next month but is still in great form/shape and it will surely suit both himself and Newcastle United that like Dan Burn, his deal will be extended to end of June 2026.
