Former England manager Fabio Capello reckons Mason Greenwood should join Juventus in the summer.

Greenwood’s future is yet to be decided with a return to Getafe or Manchester United unlikely. The Spanish side, who currently have the forward on loan, haven’t got the financial strength to meet what United are set to demand for his signature in the summer.

The 22-year-old was sent on loan to Getafe this season after United concluded an internal investigation into Greenwood’s behaviour off the pitch. He was arrested on three charges, including suspicion of rape and assault causing bodily harm.

However, the Crown Prospection Service later dropped all charges against Greenwood after key witnesses withdrew their involvement and new material came to light.

When asked about Greenwood’s future, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said a fresh decision will be made on the matter.

Former England manager Capello believes the United loanee should join Serie A giants Juventus.

Capello played for Juventus between 1970-76 and led them to two Serie A titles as manager between 2004-06 which were revoked.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian manager said: “I’ve heard about Greenwood. A Manchester United talent who has been affected by personal issues, but seems reborn at Getafe.

“There are no doubts about hit qualities. [Riccardo] Calafiori looks interested as well, but I am accustomed to seeing a Juventus that keeps their best players.

“I would not sell Bremer, [Federico] Chiesa or [Dusan] Vlahovic. I would only add quality players. I really like Bologna’s [Lewis] Ferguson and his injury was a shame.”

Back in 2019, Greenwood was on Juventus’ radar, with respected journalist Andy Mitten suggesting on the Talk of the Devils podcast that the Italian giants were preparing to offer him a life-changing amount of money.

Greenwood decided to remain at Old Trafford and signed a four year deal.

Another player of interest – mentioned by Capello – is Lewis Ferguson, who we believe has caught United’s attention this season.

The Scotland international looks set to miss Euro 2024 after Bologna confirmed he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), as per Sky Sports. Ferguson, 24, was forced off during Saturday’s Serie A draw against Monza. He now requires surgery.

In a post on Instagram, Ferguson said: “Devastated with today’s news but that’s life. I will do everything to come back better and stronger than before. Thank you all for the support. See you soon.”
