The future of Manchester United winger Antony could be in doubt this summer as Fabrizio Romano feels the Brazilian’s situation at Old Trafford is one to keep an eye on.

Antony has started just one of the last eight matches – at Newport County in the FA Cup fifth-round – and was named as a substitute again when United lost to Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Academy graduate Omari Forson was selected ahead of him, and manager Erik ten Hag waited until the 99th minute to bring on Antony even though United were in desperate need of a goal. The boss turned to Amad Diallo before he brought on the Brazil international.

Many now feel the writing is on the wall.

According to the Daily Mail, United will listen to offers for Antony this summer, while Romano has told Caught Offside that the situation is one to watch at the end of the season.

United will struggle to recoup even half of the £86 million Antony cost them from Ajax 18 months ago. That also made him the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.

Transfer specialist Romano also stressed that Antony rejected opportunities to leave United in January as he wanted to stay and fight for his place.

Romano said: “The same is true with Antony’s situation. Although Erik ten Hag has spoken publicly to say the Brazilian winger hasn’t shown his potential, it is still too early to know what will be decided on his future.

“It will depend on many factors: new director, Ten Hag and his decision, but also on the player himself as Antony rejected any opportunity in January to stay at Man United and fight for his place. For sure it’s a situation to follow for the summer, but to guarantee his exit we have to wait for next formal steps.”
