Despite previous remarks made by Thomas Tuchel, Fabrizio Romano has predicted that Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt will leave the Bundesliga team.

After arriving from Juventus in the summer of 2022, De Ligt is now the third-choice centre-back for the Bavarians since the arrival of Kim Min-jae from Napoli.

The Netherlands international has thus been strongly linked to a move in recent weeks, with Manchester United and Arsenal being considered the front-runners in the battle to capture him.

Prior to De Ligt’s transfer to Bayern, Chelsea were also interested in signing him; however, after signing Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi, rumours of a Chelsea move have cooled.

According to Thomas Tuchel, he is still an important player at the Allianz Arena.

As per Football.London, the former manager of PSG and Chelsea recently stated: “We’re planning with Matthijs, top player and top guy.”

Transfer specialist Romano thinks De Ligt isn’t certain to stay at Bayern, despite Tuchel’s remarks.

Romano told the United Stand: “I think De Ligt could be on the move.

“There could be many clubs in the race. Let’s wait for Man Utd to appoint a director of football to see who they decide to go with.”

Man Utd are looking to replace Raphael Varane, who has been linked to a move to the Saudi Pro League, and one of their top transfer priorities is to sign a new centre-back.

“Todibo is approved by Ten Hag and the scouting department,” according to Romano, indicating that if Man Utd meet the Frenchman’s asking price, a transfer may be finalised in the summer.
