The future of Marc-Andre ter Stegen has once again become a hot topic in Barcelona lately.

Despite being one of the most senior members of the team, ter Stegen’s future has come under the spotlight, especially amid reported interest from Al Ittihad.

It appears the Saudi Arabian giants are reportedly prepared to offer ter Stegen big money this summer in an attempt to lure him to the Middle East.

Fabrizio Romano on ter Stegen’s future

Amid speculation, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered some much-needed clarity in regards to the future of ter Stegen.

The Italian journalist confirms that Al Ittihad are indeed interested in securing the services of the Barcelona goalkeeper.

However, Romano guarantees that Al Ittihad currently have no knowledge or bearings as to how much they can spend in the coming summer.

That is because the budget of the Saudi Arabian League, which is funded by the state, is not clear as of now. This leaves Al Ittihad in limbo, as far as the pursuit of ter Stegen is concerned.

What’s next for ter Stegen?

This update from Romano does not insinuate anything, other than the fact that both parties must remain patient.

Al Ittihad, in particular, will have to wait out and see how much they spend in the summer. The club cannot move a single inch without knowing the budget.

Romano does confirm that interest exists from Al Itthad’s side. But they have yet to kickstart any form of negotiations with either the player or Barcelona.

Speaking of Barça, ter Stegen is widely considered one of the few untouchables in the current squad, so it will be interesting to see whether or not the Catalans in the face of a truly lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia this summer.
