Bruno Fernandes is one of the players Manchester United will be desperate to keep in a summer where they will be aiming to get rid of most of their first-team regulars.

Fernandes, who was made captain by Erik ten Hag last year, is the one player at the club that exceeds expectations and continues to show his class despite the dysfunctional side he finds himself in.

The Portugal international signed a new contract just weeks before Ten Hag was appointed in 2022 and that deal was contingent on the club’s ambition aligning with his own.

It is up for discussion whether that has happened in those two years but there are similar question marks now, with rumours circulating that he may be on the lookout for a new adventure beyond this season.

Now, journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation, insisting that Fernandes is open to staying and is comfortable with INEOS coming in.

“Man United and INEOS really want to continue with Bruno and Bruno has always been super committed,” Romano told GiveMeSport.

“The idea of the player has always been to stay at Manchester United and continue to fight for the badge and the club.

“He wants to help them win titles in the future. They feel really, really good together.”

Fernandes will be aiming to guide his Reds to the FA Cup crown next weekend when they make the trip to Wembley to face Manchester City in the final – a repeat of last year’s curtain-closer.

Before that, the Premier League season is sewn up on Sunday afternoon with a trip to Brighton.
