Joshua Zirkzee has been linked with a shock return to Italy just three months after joining Manchester United.

The Netherlands striker, who scored on his Premier League debut against Fulham, hasn’t settled as quickly as he would have liked – but it is still early days and fans will be giving him at least one season to adjust his game to English football.

Zirkzee’s struggles to date aren’t helped by United’s inconsistent form and the fact Erik ten Hag hasn’t been able to settle on a preferred XI due to injuries. He has come into a team that disappointed fans for most of last season.

Critics are bound to be harsh, though. The Dutchman cost United £36.5m following a transfer from Bologna in the summer. He has managed just one goal and one assist in 12 matches, with his latest goal contribution coming against Fenerbahce when he set up Christian Eriksen.

The Italian media have talked up a potential return to Serie A, with multiple ex-players tipping Juventus as the right club for the former Bayern Munich prospect.

Former England manager Fabio Capello pointed to the speed of the Italian and English game as a factor for Zirkzee’s struggles.

The least we can do is give the lad time. He needs to adjust his game to English football and learn more about his new team-mates before people start writing him off completely.

Joshua Zirkzee focused on Manchester United

It’s crazy to think that after three months Zirkzee wants to leave Old Trafford.

Except that isn’t the case at all. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the matter by clearing up the rumours.

“Joshua Zirkzee was very happy in Italy, Zirkzee did fantastic in Italy, but he strongly wanted to go to Manchester United,” saidRomano via YouTube.

“Zirkzee decided to go to Man Utd, it was three months ago… so to think that Zirkzee is already planning to leave the club and try something different, this is something that Zirkzee is not doing. He is fully focused on Man United.”

Romano added that Zirkzee is taking time to adapt to the Premier League, which is something we must accept.

The Premier League is one of the most difficult leagues in the world and this is a player who knows what it takes to adjust to new leagues.

Not only has Zirkzee played in Serie A, but he also experienced the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

“This is something that Zirkzee is not doing,” added Romano. “Complete and full focus on Manchester United.”
