Nigeria’s women’s senior team, the Super Falcons, are to play Algeria in a two-legged international friendly later this month, according to a source in the Nigeria Football Federation.

PUNCH Sports reliably gathered that Nigeria will feature home-based players in both matches meant to prepare both countries for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco next year.

The first leg will be played on October 26, while the reverse tie holds three days later at venues yet unknown.

This is in furtherance of the NFF’s quest to inject some quality players in the Nigeria Women’s Football League into the Super Falcons squad for the WAFCON.

To qualify for the continental football showpiece, the Super Falcons defeated Cabo Verde 7-1 on aggregate in the second round following a walkover of São Tomé e Príncipe in the first round.

Nigeria is making their 15th appearance in the competition; they have won a record 11 times (1991, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018), and will vie for honours alongside other eleven qualified nations, Morocco, South Africa, Algeria, Ghana, Botswana, DR Congo, Tunisia, Senegal, Zambia, Tanzania, and Mali, at the tournament that will run from July 5–26, 2025.
