A chronic heart condition has left 68-year-old Anthony Isidahome, a father of five, in urgent need of medical assistance, rendering him unable to support his family.

Isidahome first sought treatment in January after he began struggling to breathe and sleep properly. Initially treated for high blood pressure, his condition deteriorated significantly by August.

He was later diagnosed with advanced heart failure, which has worsened his health.

His daughter, Gift, explained to PUNCH Online on Tuesday that her father’s breathing has become increasingly laboured, making it audible even from outside their home.

“It started in January this year (2024) when he began finding it difficult to sleep, and his breathing became heavy, making it hard for him to breathe easily. At first, we thought it was high blood pressure, so we took him to a hospital where he was treated,” Gift shared.

“This continued until August when his situation became worse, and he couldn’t sleep anymore,” she added.

Now reliant on oxygen to breathe, Gift noted that the family has been struggling to afford it.

“His condition is worse now. He can no longer sleep without oxygen since Monday. He hasn’t slept at all, which is really detrimental to his health. He only manages to sleep a little with oxygen. We need help,” she lamented.

Gift further explained that doctors have recommended surgery as the only viable solution for her father’s condition.

However, the family cannot afford the treatment costs, and two of her siblings’ education has been put on hold due to financial strain.

“My father was the breadwinner of the family, and now he cannot even farm anymore,” she added, explaining that their mother’s income from farming is insufficient to meet both household needs and mounting medical expenses.

“We are drained. We need help. I have only been able to gather N120,000 from the N10 million needed for the surgery.”
