Alex Iwobi’s spectacular goal for Fulham in their Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Craven Cottage on Saturday has sent social media into a frenzy, with many shocked to see the midfielder’s quality, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Iwobi curled a stunning left-footed effort into the top corner in the 20th minute to give the Cottagers and football enthusiasts a moment to savour despite their eventual 4-1 defeat to the visitors.
Matheus Cunha delivered a standout performance, scoring twice and providing an assist.
His first goal in the 31st minute cancelled out Iwobi’s opener, and his second—a spectacular long-range strike—sealed Wolves’ dominance late in the game.
Despite the defeat, the Nigerian international’s stunner got many fans talking, with many sharing the opinion that the Nigerian could be in the running for the Puskas Award in 2025.
“This goal will be in contention for the best goal of the season next year. Man is so good that he took that perfectly with his left foot. Nice one Iwobi,” Junior T tweeted.
Nkululeko Tokologo added, “I don’t know why they are not talking about him but this guy is really good if you watch his game.”
Uche Nwali said, “I love the fact that we all can see how good Alex is. The Nigerians who don’t appreciate him are just trying to let the poor guy fill Okocha’s shoes. He’s not Jay Jay, and he won’t be.

Comparing the Super Eagles midfielder to Ghana legend, Michael Essien, TheMadridPolls tweeted, “Alex Iwobi is better than Micheal Essien but you’re not ready for this conversation.”
Meanwhile, despite the number of praises directed at the former Arsenal player, some fans were left unimpressed with his performance for the national team.

Treasure challenged the midfielder to replicate the form at the next Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
