Erik ten Hag could make a sensational return to Ajax, with the Dutch having included the Manchester United coach in their list of candidates for the summer.

The Amsterdam club will be led by a new coach in 2024-25, with John van’t Schip acting as interim coach for the time being.

He was tasked with leading a campaign that began with Ajax plummeting to the bottom of the Eredivisie table.

Ten Hag in danger

Ten Hag showed he can live up to expectations at the Johan Cruyff Arena, leading Ajax to three consecutive titles before leaving for Old Trafford in 2022. He ended a six-year wait for a major title in winning the Carabao Cup in his first season.

United are, however, considering another change to their management team after struggling for consistency in 2023-24 and the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a 25 per cent stake. Ten Hag could become available this summer if he fails to secure European qualification while continuing his quest for FA Cup success.
