EXCLUSIVE: Fauda and Gladiator II star Lior Raz is set along with Havana Rose Liu, Jean Reno, and 2x Emmy nominee Tovah Feldshuh for Daniel Roher’s upcoming crime thriller Tuner from Black Bear.
Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman were previously announced to lead the feature, based on a script from Roher and Robert Ramsey. Production started this past week in Toronto.
Tuner tells the story of a talented piano tuner (Woodall), whose life is turned upside down when he discovers that his meticulous skills for tuning pianos can equally be applied to cracking safes in this jazz-infused crime drama about love, loss and the lengths we’ll go to for the people who matter most. The film is being produced by JoAnne Sellar and Lila Yacoub, with Black Bear representing international rights. Elevation Pictures is co-producing and will also release the film in Canada. Debra Zane is casting the picture.
Raz is best known for co-creating and starring in the long-running Israeli action thriller Fauda on Netflix. Other recent credits include Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room alongside Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried, and Michael Bay’s 6 Underground opposite Ryan Reynolds. He can next be seen in the much-anticipated Gladiator II alongside Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington. Raz is represented by UTA, Artists First, Rinat Eithan Talent Management, and Ziffren Brittenham.
Liu broke out on the scene with Emma Seligman’s hit feminist comedy Bottoms opposite Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri, and also led Hulu mystery thriller No Exit in 2022. She recently wrapped production on John Carney’s feel-good musical Power Ballad, which also stars Paul Rudd, Jack Reynor, and Nick Jonas, as well as Christmas comedy Oh. What. Fun. with Michelle Pfieffer, Felicity Jones, and Dominic Sessa. Liu is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.
Reno is most famous for playing the titular Léon in Luc Besson’s Léon: The Professional opposite Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman. He has also starred in Mission: Impossible, The Pink Panther, and Ronin. Most recently, Reno’s performance in My Penguin Friend earned rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. His novel Emma has remained on the French bestseller list since its release in May. Reno is represented by CAA and Gateway Management.
Tovah Feldshuh is a 4x Tony nominee for Best Actress on Broadway, having starred in productions of Yentl, Cyrano, Pippin, and most recently, the Funny Girl revival opposite Lea Michele. On the screen, Feldshuh scored Emmy nominations for her work on Law & Order and Holocaust, and held a main character arc as Deanna Monroe on AMC’s The Walking Dead. She most recently starred on Netflix’s Nobody Wants This alongside Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, will sing at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall later this month, and has just wrapped two indies: Postmortem by award-winning documentarian Marilyn Ness, and The Upside of Unrequited, written and directed by the Shakespeare Sisters. Feldshuh is represented by Stewart Talent and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
