This summer, FC Barcelona is preparing for a major change. Indeed, Xavi will leave his position as coach. News which inevitably panicked the Blaugranas, who will have to find his replacement. For several days, many names have been linked directly or indirectly to the residents of the Camp Nou. Last night, Deco was questioned at length on the subject during an interview given to Esports3whose best statements can be read this morning in the main Iberian media including A.S.. After giving Xavi’s work a 10, the sporting director defended the Spanish coach.

“Everything he did over the years was not appreciated. It seems that winning last year’s La Liga wasn’t that difficult. I found some very harsh criticism.” Regarding his successor, Deco said: “our reality is what it is. We will not be able to make major recruitments and he will have to adapt to the circumstances (…) We have not yet spoken to anyone. This will be a decision agreed with the president.” Despite everything, several names came out of the hat, including that of José Mourinho, free since the end of his adventure at AS Roma.

Deco puts an end to the Marquez track

“He’s a friend, but I haven’t spoken to him in a while.”, admitted Deco. Concerning Pep Guardiola, also linked to Culés, he did not hide his admiration. “He’s a great coach. Perhaps the best in history.” He then kicked in about Thiago Motta. “I haven’t seen many Bologna matches. Yes, he does a good job, but I haven’t spoken to him in many years.” Finally, he was asked to speak about Rafa Marquez, who many would like to see on the first team bench.

“He is doing his job and growing as a coach in the reserve team. He is not considered as a coach of the future. Deco therefore put an end to this track. Finally, he declared about the profile sought: “the same one we have now. That he adapts to the style of the club, to the young people, to the players on the squad because there will be no big recruits, that he is aware of what Barça can do today. It must come knowing reality, what we can do and where we are going.” Candidates for the position have therefore been warned!
