After refusing to extend his adventure with Manchester City last summer, İlkay Gündoğan signed with FC Barcelona by signing a two-year contract with an optional additional year. The German quickly became a regular under Xavi (36 matches, 5 goals, 9 assists) and did not hesitate to make people talk about him due to various outbursts about the behavior of some of his teammates throughout the season.
And despite the arrival of his compatriot Hansi Flick on the FC Barcelona bench, his future was not assured at Barça. Sport explained that Barça were ready to facilitate his departure in the event of a good offer and the player’s desire to leave. While he remains a player highly valued by the club and the fans, the ex-Cityzen has a salary of €10 million net per year that would ease the finances of the Catalan club and therefore facilitate the arrival of Nico Williams, Barça’s main attraction this summer.
İlkay Gündoğan considers leaving Barcelona
The future of İlkay Gündoğan (33) could change quickly. While he is still on vacation, Hansi Flick is reportedly eagerly awaiting his reintegration, particularly because of the injuries in the Catalan midfield, but an offer could complicate the German coach’s plans.
