Limited by its financial situation, FC Barcelona has made little progress in the transfer window. This summer, the Blaugranas only completed two arrivals with Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig) and Pau Victor (Girona). Rather concerned by departures with the desire to get rid of several players. However, it will also be necessary to strengthen certain positions in order to arrive with the most complete squad possible at the start of the 2024/2025 season.

And Hans-Dieter Flick would not be against a new arrival in midfield in order to bring competition. To fill this role, the Blaugranas have targeted a Chelsea player. Already in the sights of the Catalans two years ago when the latter was still at Aston Villa, Carney Chukwuemeka (20 years old), is rather stuck in the English capital. In two years, he has only played 27 matches with the Blues (2 goals and 1 assist).

A file in slow motion

Despite everything, the English midfielder remains a great talent and had played at the last U20 World Cup. While his progress at Chelsea has slowed down, FC Barcelona would like to take advantage of the opportunity. According to Sportthe Blaugrana club has made contact in recent weeks with Chelsea as well as the player’s agents to find out the feasibility of this file. But it will not be so simple for FC Barcelona since Chelsea would like to keep the player.

The latter is however aware that his coach Enzo Maresca does not make him a priority and the FC Barcelona opportunity would be a good option. However, the Blaugranas have slowed down this track with the good preparation of youngsters Marc Casadó (20 years old) and Marc Bernal (20 years old). For the moment, the Carney Chukwuemeka file is at a standstill, but FC Barcelona is ready to relaunch it if Hans-Dieter Flick believes that he finds the youngsters of La Masia too light to stay the course for the season.
