The Xavi era is officially over. The legend of Barça and Spanish football managed his last match on Sunday evening; a 2-1 victory against Sevilla FC. After a huge soap opera and several twists and turns concerning his future, he was kicked out and will leave his costume to the German Hansi Flick. Very tense and annoyed, he took advantage of his last appearance in front of the media to settle scores.

“There is no feeling of liberation, because I wanted to continue. These are club decisions, we respect them, but we thought that all this was not over yet. It is not up to me to reveal the reasons, I can only accept the decision, nothing more”he first said, before being a little more incisive: “I have the feeling that everything I have done has created earthquakes. I was targeted”.

A strong warning to Hansi Flick

“I was not able to work peacefully and calmly. We wanted to work, but that’s the life of a coach, it’s a shame. The work we did in a situation of adversity was not valued. We fought for titles, we did a double. This season we fell short due to details in decisive matches. I’m sad. The situation is not going to change, the one who has to explain is the one who makes the decision”added the former midfielder of the Catalan team.

Joan Laporta briefly explained this weekend, during the celebration of the club’s women’s team’s Champions League title: “all decisions, all, are for the good of Barça and for the benefit of Barça”. Not enough for Xavi, nor for the journalists, obviously. To conclude his press conference, the former number 8 of La Roja wanted to send a message to his successor, Hansi Flick: “let him know that the situation is difficult, with an unfavorable financial situation. He will suffer. He will have to be patient, it is a very complicated position. I don’t know if being a foreigner is positive or not, what will save him is winning. I was scrutinized and expectations were created which worked against me, because I had been part of one of the best Barça in history”. Hansi Flick is warned.
