FC Twente boss warns they can hurt Manchester United in Europa League clash

FC Twente faces one of the biggest nights of his managerial career when he takes his side to Old Trafford in the Europa League on Wednesday night.

Joseph Oosting believes Twente can hurt Manchester United on the transition but knows there is no chance of a shock result unless the Dutch side, formerly managed by Erik ten Hag, are at their very best.

While performances have slightly improved, results haven’t been the best for United since the start of the season. The Reds go into the tie following a scoreless draw away at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

For that reason, why shouldn’t Twente give themselves a chance? United must demand the win if they are to get it and take their chances in front of goal.

“I always believe in opportunities,” Oosting said, as per the Irish Independent. “If we dare to play, we can also create opportunities. Especially in the transition, we can hurt Manchester.

“That is easier said than done but the will is definitely there. We played games against Red Bull (Salzburg, in the Champions League qualifying stage) that you learn from.

“Everything goes at the highest tempo, whether it is on the ball or in defence. You have to be top in everything and we need everyone to be there. I think we have also made progress in that.

“We have respect for Manchester United, but we also have the full conviction and the will to get the most out of the game.”

Speaking about the 4,000 Twente fans with ticket in the away end, Oosting added: “I think that’s great that so many supporters have come this way to support us here.

“Outside the hotel we saw supporters walking this afternoon. I think that’s great.”
