FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu

The newly appointed Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu has assured residents of communities in the Bwari Area Council of improved police presence.

He gave the assurance during his visit to some communities in the Ushafa area of the FCT.

The Bwari Area Council has recently become a hotspot for gunmen who carry out killings and kidnappings with alarming frequency.

On August 30, gunmen abducted a family of four, following similar incidents on June 4 and May 13, among others in the area.

However, in a statement on Friday by the command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh said the CP embarked on the tour to evaluate the effectiveness of the deployment in the communities.

She said, “In a proactive move to reinforce security and build community trust, the newly posted Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory Command, on Friday, October 2024, visited the Bwari/Ushafa Communities to assess the current security situation and evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing security deployments in the area.

“The visit is part of the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all parts of the FCT enjoy peace and security, especially in communities like Bwari that have witnessed security challenges in recent times.

“During his engagement, CP Disu held extensive discussions with traditional rulers, youth groups, and community members, listening to their concerns and reaffirming the police force’s dedication to swift and professional responses to any emerging threats.”

Adeh said Disu assured residents that the Command had strengthened its deployments in key areas within the Bwari axis, with a special focus on intelligence-driven operations and rapid response units.

She said, “The Commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police and residents, encouraging community members to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities.

“He assured that the Command has already strengthened its deployments in key areas within the Bwari axis, with a special focus on intelligence-driven operations and rapid response units. He reiterated that the FCT Command will leave no stone unturned in tackling crime and ensuring that Bwari, like all communities within the FCT, remains a safe and secure environment for residents and businesses alike.

“The FCT Command assures the public that it will continue to engage with all stakeholders, enhance its security architecture, and adopt cutting-edge strategies to address security challenges in the area. “
