Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen looks likely to face a future away from Stamford Bridge after recently moving on loan to Borussia Dortmund.
The 21-year-old signed a new deal with Chelsea before his departure in January, but Fabrizio Romano seems fairly sure that he’s still likely to be leaving the west London giants in the near future.
Maatsen has made a great start at Dortmund, but Romano spoke on his YouTube channel in the video clip below about how it might be tricky for the Bundesliga giants to afford his £35million release clause, which is open to all clubs, rather than being a specific purchase clause for Dortmund…

Chelsea look to have plenty of interest in Maatsen, so it could be a good opportunity for them to make significant money from a sale this summer.
It seems that there is probably no way back for Maatsen under Mauricio Pochettino, and it will be interesting to see if that ends up being a decision the club live to regret.
We saw how much CFC made the wrong decision when they let the likes of Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku go as youngsters, and it may be that Maatsen has similar potential.
