Fermin Lopez insists he is ‘not interested’ in his links with a move to Manchester United and wants to remain at Barcelona.

The 21-year-old was only handed his first-team debut for Barcelona last August and enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season as he went on to score eight goals in La Liga.

The midfielder subsequently secured a place in Spain’s squad for Euro 2024 and came on as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 win over Albania on Monday, which was only his second appearance for the national side.

Fermin’s performances have not escaped the attention of Manchester United, who submitted a €30 million (£25m) bid to Barcelona earlier this month, according to reports in Spain.

However, Barcelona turned down United’s approach and are keen to extend Lopez’s contract once again after handing him a new deal last August.

When asked directly about United’s offer, Fermin told Relevo: ‘I don’t read the press, I’m not really interested.

‘The important thing is that I want to be at Barca and I only think about Barca. Nothing else.’

Asked if he has spoke with Barce’a new head coach, Hansi Flick, Fermin said: ‘He wished us all luck in the first game, but that’s about it.

‘A couple of messages and that’s it. I guess he’ll watch the Euros and keep an eye on me.’

Speaking last month before his exit, Xavi urged Barcelona to keep hold of Fermin.

‘We were told that his loan [at Linares] had been very good,’ Xavi said.

‘I had liked him for a couple of years. When we tried him in pre-season, I saw that he was ready to compete. He’s a player for many years.’
