Speaking in an interview with Prensa Ibérica (h/t SPORT), Ferran Torres has reiterated that he will not leave Barcelona this summer and will be staying put at the club.

Like many players in the Barça squad, Ferran’s future is also not secure with reports suggesting that the club would be open to offers and would study the possibility of a sale if anything interesting came along.

The forward, currently on international duty with Spain at UEFA Euro 2024, however, has been insisting that the idea of a departure has never crossed his mind and that he plans to stay and succeed at Barcelona.

“I will continue at Barça next season, it’s not that I want to stay, it’s that I am going to stay,” he had said back in June.

Reaffirming his stance

Now, during the latest interview, Ferran has gone ahead and reaffirmed his position as far as his future at Barcelona is concerned.

“I don’t know, I’m one of those people who puts my mobile phone on aeroplane mode and doesn’t listen to what they say about me,” said Torres about rumours and speculations.

“I’m in Barcelona, I have a contract at Barcelona and I will continue at Barcelona,” the Spanish international then confirmed.

Torres also revealed that he had received messages from new manager Hansi Flick, wishing him luck at the Euros, saying:

“Some messages that have wished me luck. And I’m already looking forward to going to Barcelona, talking to the manager, to put myself in his hands because I’m sure he’ll get a lot of potential out of us.”

Praise for Lamine, Nico

Ferran then went on to lavish praise on Barcelona teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal and the club’s top target, Nico Williams, both of whom have taken the Euros by storm with Spain.

“They are prodigies, they are kids out of the ordinary, they are showing it and at their age it has a lot of merit,” said the ex-Manchester City forward.

“You have to look after them because they are very young, you can put a lot of pressure on them, they have to enjoy themselves and continue to do the same because they are very good people,” he added.

When asked if he passes on advice to Yamal, who is a teammate at both club and international level, Ferran replied:

“He doesn’t need any footballing advice because he’s very good. I can give him advice from off the pitch because of my experiences. I’m a teammate who tries to help as much as possible in whatever way I can.”

When asked if he would welcome the signings of Spain teammates Dani Olmo and Nico at Barcelona, he said:

“Yes, dammit! All positive reinforcements for Barça would be good for us to achieve success.”

On Pedri and Araujo’s injuries

Ferran also commented on the injury setbacks that two of his Barcelona teammates, Pedri and Ronald Araujo, suffered this past week with their respective national teams.

“He’s a bit messed up. He misses the rest of the European Championship, but I have no doubt that he’s going to support us and give us a lot of strength from off the pitch,” said Torres about Pedri.

On how Barcelona must cope with the twin injury blow, he added: “There are a lot of matches, with a lot of demands, matches every three days, with practically no time to rest. It’s normal that there are injuries. We have to minimise them and finish the season as healthy as possible.”
