The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, on Friday, distributed knapsack sprayers and insecticides to the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Edo chapter, to address the issue of ticks in dog kennels.

The Edo State Coordinator of the Ministry, Dr Samuel Owoicho, made the donations during the monthly meeting of the NVMA held in Benin.

Owoicho stated that the donation was in line with the ministry’s mandate to control ticks in dog kennels, using knapsack sprayers and insecticides.

He emphasised the need for collaboration between the ministry and the NVMA to ensure the effective control of ticks and other animal diseases.

He highlighted the importance of controlling ticks, citing their negative impact on animal health and the livestock industry as a whole.

Owoicho reiterated the ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting the NVMA’s efforts to promote animal health and welfare initiatives.

He explained that the ministry had been working closely with the NVMA to implement various initiatives aimed at controlling animal diseases.

“The ministry has also provided resources such as Android phones, human and animal anti-rabies vaccines, and capacity building for members in the state.

“These efforts are geared towards promoting animal health, welfare, and disease surveillance,” he added.

In his remarks, NVMA Chairman, Dr Daniel Asemota, thanked the Federal Government for the support, stating that it would significantly contribute to tackling ticks in dog kennels across the state.
