The Ministry of Labour and Employment has concluded a two-day inspection of factories in Lagos State, as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to enforcing compliance with occupational safety, health standards and labour laws.
Led by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the team visited top companies including Cadbury Plc, Nestle Plc, and Guinness Nigeria PLC according to a statement by Patience Onwubia of the press department of the ministry on Saturday.
The inspections aimed to assess workplace conditions, health and safety measures, and employee welfare provisions.
Onyejeocha emphasised the importance of prioritising the health, safety, and mental well-being of both employers and employees, highlighting its impact on productivity.
“The health, safety and well-being of workers is a top priority for the Federal Government. This inspection underscores the commitment of the government in ensuring that factories comply with labour laws, health and safety regulations, and environmental best practices”, Onyejeocha stated.
The minister urged employers and employees to share responsibility for workplace safety, emphasizing the need for employers to provide necessary safety equipment, training, and conducive work environments.
Onyejeocha also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working collaboratively with stakeholders to drive industrial growth while upholding regulatory standards.
The inspection was part of the government’s efforts to promote a safe and healthy work environment, boost productivity, and drive economic growth.
