FG, NGOs partner to save nine-year-old boy with heart defect

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has partnered with Non-Governmental Organisations to address the health challenges of a nine-year-old boy, Perfect Obi, who was diagnosed with a heart defect.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy, disclosed this in a statement signed by her aide, Musa Abdulrahaman, and posted on X.com on Wednesday.

The statement revealed that Kennedy received information about Obi’s situation from a concerned citizen, after which she arranged a meeting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Obi Edward.

The statement partly read, “Barrister Kennedy actively sought partnerships with Non-Governmental Organisations to secure the necessary support for Perfect’s treatment.

“This resulted in a successful collaboration with the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation and Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital.

“These esteemed organisations generously pledged to cover the cost of Perfect’s heart surgery and associated medical care.”

In the statement, the minister thanked the NGOs “for the immense generosity and compassion” shown towards Perfect.

She was also said to have assured the family of the ministry’s support, which included “providing for medication, accommodation, and transportation leading up to the surgery.”
