The Federal Government is developing a “Diaspora City” to encourage investment and foster reconnection among Nigerians living abroad, the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has announced.

Musawa made this known in Abuja on Monday during the unveiling of the Motherland 2025 initiative, a project aimed at celebrating Nigeria’s cultural heritage and attracting global engagement.

She emphasised that her ministry was not only reimagining tourism but actively investing in platforms that drive economic growth, cultural exchange, and community development.

“Our vision extends beyond attracting global visitors; it is about ensuring that the creative and tourism sectors serve as critical tools to positively impact the lives of Nigerians,” she stated.

The minister described Motherland 2025 as more than just a festival, calling it an initiative that reaffirms Nigeria’s role as the epicenter of global Black and African culture, commerce, and community.

“This year, we open our doors to the global diaspora, inviting them to immerse themselves in our rich traditions, explore investment opportunities, and witness the remarkable transformation unfolding across our nation,” she added.

According to Musawa, the festival is designed as a fully immersive experience, showcasing Nigeria’s vibrancy, creativity, and economic potential.

“Through state pavilions, exhibitions, and cultural showcases, we will highlight the best of Nigeria—our innovation, business landscape, and the diverse cultural heritage of all 36 states and the FCT,” she explained.

She further noted that the Motherland Ambassador Awards would honor outstanding diaspora members making significant contributions in their respective fields.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Discover Motherland Africa, Chidinma Nwankwo, described the unveiling as the beginning of a transformative movement.

“This initiative not only reconnects Nigerians in the diaspora with their roots but also unlocks investment opportunities and strengthens cultural pride,” Nwankwo said.
