EXCLUSIVE: Unscripted series Manila Matriarchs has cast singer-actress Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon, as well as fashion professional Myrza Sison and entrepreneurs Joanna Preysler-Francisco and Trisha Bantigue-Tsao.

Filming in San Francisco and Metro Manila, the eight-part series will follow the lives of four women from the Philippines as they navigate motherhood, sisterhood, careers, love, social standing, and the pursuit of true happiness.

The series is executive produced and created by Filipino-American producers Cece Asuncion (Strut, Road to the Runway) of Girl, Bye Productions. Miguel Santos (Eat Your Words, Mom vs Matchmaker), Eddie Tran, Joy Tarce, as well as JP Mallo and Justyn Reyes of J Creative Entertainment also serve as executive producers.

Manila Matriarchs has received support from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) as well as Secretary Benhur Abalos and the Philippines Department of the Interior and

Local Government (DILG). No network or streamer is yet attached.

“I’m thrilled to highlight the lives of these incredibly talented women,” Asuncion told Deadline. “Their stories are surprisingly relatable and human. This is my love letter to not only Filipina women, but to all women.”

Santos said: “From philanthropy to tech, to television and art, these brilliant women are simply showcasing to the world what power and success already looks like for women in the Philippines, which is a country that has been very progressive with women’s rights for generations.”

Mallo added: “The time is now to tell authentic and global stories with specificity. It’s important

to tell these relatable stories with a uniquely Filipino point of view because it simply just doesn’t

happen as often as it should. The nuances of our culture are meant to be celebrated on the

world stage.”
