The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has tasked the country’s graduates to strive for excellence in the pursuit of national development.

He said it was important for them to bring their expertise to bear if the country intended to achieve accelerated growth.

According to him graduates, per their training were equipped with the relevant knowledge and leadership skills which required them to find an antidote to the society’s recurring development challenges. “With perseverance and hard work, you can achieve greatness,” he emphasised.

President Akufo-Addo made the call when he addressed the fifth session of the 16th graduation ceremony of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in Accra yesterday.

In all, about 5, 608 students graduated at this year’s ceremony, including 1, 120 postgraduate students.

The programme coincided with the inauguration of a 10-storey edifice constructed from the internally-generated funds of the University.

The facility has lecture halls, offices and an auditorium to enhance administrative and academic work.

President Nana Akufo-Addo lauded the University for remaining committed to its vision and mission, working assiduously to shape the minds of the country’s future leaders.

“UPSA is one of Ghana’s institutions of higher learning that has become synonymous with academic excellence,” he elaborated.

With over 55 years of experience, the University has achieved the reputation as the oldest Ghanaian human resource development institution in professional accountancy and management with many of its products in key leadership positions locally and abroad.

The outgoing President said his administration had made significant investment, through infrastructural development at all levels of education, to enhance equity and accessibility over the years.

That had ensured many Ghanaian youth having the opportunity to get educated to improve their lives to transform the society for the better, he added.

The UPSA Board Chairman, Dr Kofi Ohene Konadu, called on the graduating students to continue to work hard in all fields of human endeavour to enhance the reputation of the University.
