Super Eagles head coach Finidi George claimed he won’t be involved in the process of picking a new captain for the team.

Current captain of the team Ahmed Musa is presently inactive and is expected to be omitted for the squad to face South Africa and Benin Republic in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

PAOK Salonica of Greece defender William Troost-Ekong has been the Super Eagles stand-in captain in Musa’s absence.

Finidi said it is the responsibility of his players to choose, who will lead them.

“It’s not my responsibility (to pick a captain), it’s the responsibility of the team,” he said during his media tour.

“People said (Sunday) Oliseh picked his captain and Finidi George should do same

It’s not my responsibility to pick a captain.

“The players will choose the person they are comfortable with.

“They will be them to decide who wears the captain’s arm band.”
