The Feed Industry Practitioners Association of Nigeria has promised to continue to drive growth in the country’s livestock despite the challenging operating environment.

The FIPAN President, Dr Ayoola Odutan, stated this recently in Lagos during his inauguration as the association’s new president.

The outgoing president, Mr Raymond Isiadiso, received accolades for his contributions to FIPAN’s growth during his tenure.

Oduntan described Isiadiso’s tenure as helpful in the elevation of the association to global recognition.

In his acceptance speech, Odutan expressed his deep gratitude to the members for placing their trust in him.

He said, “Nigeria’s feed has been taken to the international arena. Before, we were in obscurity at all those international meetings.

However, the new FIPAN president said he remained optimistic about the growth potential, as FIPAN was necessary to Nigeria’s agricultural sector and the broader economy.

“Despite the challenges, the feed industry has made remarkable strides in ensuring the nutrition and well-being of millions of Nigerians,” said Odutan. “We have moved from obscurity to global relevance, representing Africa at international forums. Our goal now is to build on this foundation and elevate Nigeria’s feed industry to even greater heights.”

A highlight of the event was the presence of industry leaders, including Folorunsho Ogunaike, Simieon Onwofa, Dr Folayan Afebo, and Dr David Michael, who pledged to support the new FIPAN leadership.

The industry players highlighted the significant opportunities available in the sector, noting the low protein consumption in Nigeria and the industry’s potential to address the national challenge.

The former President of FIPAN, Isiadiso, hailed the efforts of the outgoing executives and expressed confidence in Odutan’s capacity to drive the industry forward.

He addressed the bane of insecurity in the feed sector and said, “Nationally, we shouldn’t be where we are or complaining the way we are complaining.

“We are blessed with arable land that is very productive. We are also inquisitive people ready to plant the lands that are natural and fertile, but we have the issue of insecurity, which has inadvertently reduced the lands and hands available for production.”

The former Vice President of FIPAN, Adewale Adekunle, urged the Federal Government to help the people find a way to reduce taxes so that the disposable income that people would be enough to build the economy.

The new treasurer of FIPAN, Olukorede Adebanjo, spoke on the high cost of raw materials and how it had been affecting the feed sector.

He explained, “Basically, right now, we have a dire and challenging situation, all prices are going up.

“We have seven major materials for producing animal feed, some of which are; Maize and Soya, but because of the present state of Nigeria’s economy, all the prices of these materials have been tremendously affected.

“The government can help us with policies to reduce the price of these materials. This will translate into the reduction of the prices of our products and as well generate into a reduction of the price of consumption of protein in the country,” she added.
