Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed after a fire gutted a factory in the Ladipo Oluwole area of Ikeja, Lagos State, on Wednesday night.
The Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Magaret Adeseye, while confirming the inferno in a statement on Thursday, said the agency responded to a distress call at 8:41 pm on Wednesday.
She added that the affected goods included bodyspray, perfumes, creams and others.
The statement read, “The factory fire which erupted at Imperio International, 6 Ayodele Diyan Street, off Ladipo Oluwole Street, Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday night has been doused by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
“The blaze left substantial damage to goods including bodyspray, perfumes, and creams among others while partially affecting the twin warehouse block was confined.
“This was consequent upon prevention of further spread to the rear twin warehouse block used for production which incident could have been more devastating due to the volatility of raw materials and equipment storage as well as factory personnel it houses.”
Adeseye stated that the fire was brought under control a few hours into the midnight, adding that “it is still being salvaged with dampening down of embers from the remains of salvaged goods as the operations moved to recovery stage to allow for a mop-up of the premises.”
The LFRS boss revealed that no casualty was recorded while the investigation was ongoing to unravel the cause of the incident.
“The cause of the incident which investigation is running simultaneously with the recovery will be revealed upon completion as no casualty was recorded.
“The operations are a true reflection of public-private partnership and synergy as Godrej Safety Department, Mouka Foam, Nigerchin and others joined LASEMA, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police to complement the efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to bring the situation under control,” the statement added.
