Fired by Bayern, Tuchel gives his version

Thomas Tuchel has given his reasons for leaving his post as Bayern Munich coach this summer and lamented his team’s long injury list.

Bayern’s decision to part ways with Tuchel comes after a series of three defeats in all competitions, compounded by their second place in the Bundesliga, eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Looking back on his tenure at Bayern, Tuchel highlighted the club’s unfortunate string of injuries, which prevented them from maintaining high-level performances. He also revealed that his decision to take charge of the club was made in haste and admitted that he had failed to bring consistency to the team.

When asked by journalists if it was a mistake to join Bayern, Tuchel replied: “It doesn’t make sense to look back. There was a call at the time and we decided to do it within 48 hours because we were confident and wanted to do it. We won a lot of points, we broke some records. We forget that we haven’t had much luck with injuries. We are and were confident enough in the coaching staff to be confident in ourselves. However, we were unable to take the team to the next level consistently. This is the reason why we are separating this summer.”

Tuchel has made it clear that while he does not fully understand or agree with the club’s decision to let him leave, the clarity over his future brings him freedom, allowing him to focus on the remaining matches without having to worry about long-term consequences.

“It is not important whether I understand the club’s decision or whether I am satisfied with it“Tuchel said. “The only thing that matters now is clarity. Clarity brings freedom and it’s good for matches and training. The coach has more freedom to act. You don’t have to think about the long-term consequences of your choices. You can be a little more reckless.”

A situation finally resolved

Bayern’s performances have been inconsistent and the club has failed to maintain its usual dominance of German football. Defeats to lower-tier teams like Saarbruecken in the German Cup and the Champions League round of 16 first-leg loss to Lazio compounded the team’s struggles. The recent 3-2 defeat against VfL Bochum forced the Bayern management to decide on their future. However, the coach believes he is not the club’s “only problem”.

“I never had the impression that as a coach we were no longer able to reach the team”said Tuchel. “But we have a gap between training and matches and the coach is responsible for that. I don’t think I’m the only problem but I accept responsibility. I’m not happy with the way we’re playing and I’ve been unhappy for a while. Today we are faced with a new situation, but this has been resolved and communicated. »
