The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Life Assurance Company Limited, Nigeria, Mrs. Funmilayo Omo, has called for improved collaboration among stakeholders to enhance growth in the country’s insurance sector.
Omo made the call while speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the maiden edition of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, South-South region, leadership summit, sponsored by Enterprise Life Assurance company held in Port Harcourt.
She said one of the major challenges the insurance industry faces is penetration, saying, “I mean, penetration is less than one per cent and that tells you that there is a major gap.
“And that’s the solution that we’re seeking to find in all of this interaction that we’re having. And the final take home is that collaboration is key.”
Mrs Omo added, “Collaboration is a new currency. Collaboration is a way forward. And so we must seek ways of partnering, working together, collaborating, to chart a direction for the industry and to make a positive difference.”
On the purpose of the summit, Omo said it was aimed at finding ways by which brokers and other players within the Nigerian insurance industry can carve out possibilities that will positively impact the industry.
She added, “This gathering is mainly of brokers. It’s an opportunity to come and discuss salient issues, share perspectives, share thoughts, and choose and decide the path to go.
“It is a way of interacting and networking, ultimately, to make positive changes within the industry. This is the maiden edition of the South-South Leadership Summit. It’s the brainchild of the current chairman of the South-South zone of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers.
“And the whole idea is to foster collaboration and partnerships and create ways of networking and bringing people together. That’s the purpose of the summit and the impact of the summit is to improve the industry. It’s to create a better future. It’s to impact positively.”
She added that the summit could impact the nation’s economy.
She added, “The impact on the Nigerian economy is a contribution to Gross Domestic Product and to drive income, create opportunities, both financial opportunities, because Nigeria is also a financial hub in Africa and to create employment opportunities at the end of the day to make a positive contribution to the GDP.”
She further said Enterprise Life Assurance is proud to be the sponsor of the maiden event, saying, “The reason why we have chosen to sponsor this event is one, to formally announce our entry into the South-South zone, as you know, Enterprise started business in 2021.
“We opened our doors and that was just in Lagos. We have a focus on deepening penetration and part of deepening penetration is to ensure that we have foot soldiers and a presence across the country.
“We feel that visibility is important and the only way we can show respect and formally announce to the community so that we can be welcomed by most, especially the brokers who are major players within the life insurance business, is to host them.”
