Five die, eight injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

Five people were reported dead while eight others were injured in an accident that occurred on Monday at about 1:58 pm around Fidiwo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

A total of 15 persons were involved (Eight male adults and seven female adults).

The fatal crash involved a Mazda bus with registration number EKY582 YE and another Mercedes Benz Truck with no plate number.

The truck reportedly suffered a tyre burst on motion after which it lost control and rammed into the Mazda bus.

This was according to a statement from the Spokesperson of Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe.

The statement partly reads “The fatal crash occurred at about 1358 hrs on  Lagos-Ibadan expressway around FIDIWO

02 vehicles were involved with registration number EKY582 YE MAZDA BUS and A Mercedes Benz Truck with no registration number on it.

“Eight persons were injured from the crash while five persons died.

“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were Tyre bust, excessive speed which led to loss of control on the part of the truck, and the crash with the bus while in motion.”

It added that the Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector, Anthony Uga, is pained by the unfortunate incident.
