Since the world has become a global village with advancements in technologies, humans across the world have connected more through several gadgets, including mobile phones.

Every mobile phone has its uptime which is powered by the gadget’s battery.

During the downtime, users are expected to boost it back to its optimal level by charging the battery.

With the drawbacks presented by the up and downtime, users are constantly monitoring the battery life of mobile phones, with owners running foul of some charging mistakes.

PUNCH Online looks at some common mistakes users might be making while charging their phones.

Don’t charge for hours: Though several phones now come with systems to stop themselves charging once they’re full, it’s still efficient to unplug the phone when it’s 100%. Unplugging immediately at 100% preserves the battery’s health.

Stay in-between: Phone makers use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and they’re not best suited to being either completely drained or being left charging while already full. Users must learn to avoid these mistakes as either of these can slowly, but surely drain the overall charge capacity of a battery cell.

Charge in open space: Avoid keeping the phone under the pillow, blankets, duvets, and bedsheets while charging as this makes the phone hotter and results in overheating. Apple and Google recommend you charge your phone on a clean surface, like a bedside table, instead.

Using cheap replacement cables and plugs: When replacing original chargers (‘follow-come charger’), don’t opt for cheap cables and plugs for your phones. Cheap cables and phones can make your phone charge slowly which can affect overall battery health.

Streaming while charging: Avoid running intensive programmes like streaming, and playing video games among others while charging your phones as these would stress the battery in terms of heat would affect the battery’s long-term durability.
