Manchester City moved closer to the lead in the Premier League by winning this Monday evening at Brentford (1-3), thanks to a hat-trick from Phil Foden.

Manchester City took another step towards the top of the Premier League by winning at Brentford (1-3) this Monday evening, at the end of the 23rd day of the English championship.

The Skyblues found their magical duo, with Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, who had not started together since August. But Pep Guardiola’s men suffered to get rid of this astonishing Brentford team, who beat them twice last season.

Flekken delayed the deadline

Goalkeeper Mark Flekken had an exceptional start to the match, stopping the Citizens’ first nine shots, and delivering an assist on a long clearance for Neal Maupay (21st). But on a ball poorly cleared by one of his defenders, the Danish goalkeeper was unable to do anything about Phil Foden’s equalizer (45th + 3).

The England international was the hero of the evening for the Skyblues, as he scored a hat-trick taking advantage of a good cross from De Bruyne (53rd) and a clever delivery from Haaland (70th).

In the standings, Man City regains second place from Arsenal and comes back to two small points behind Liverpool, with still a match in hand (to be played against… Brentford). If successful on Saturday against Everton (1:30 p.m.), Pep Guardiola’s machine could take control of the rankings.
