Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes played the whole 120 minutes worth of action in Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final triumph last night.
Garnacho’s brother took to Twitter (X) after the game to reveal that the attacker had only trained two days in the week leading up to the tie due to a hamstring injury, which is remarkable given that he did not stop running or pressing for the entirety of the time he was on the pitch. Talk about playing for the badge.
As for Fernandes, we’re all well aware at this stage that he’ll do anything to ensure he’s fit to start. He is yet to miss a game for United through injury and in extra-time, the captain, who had been instructed to take position at centre-back, was spotted walking gingerly and clutching his Achilles.
When Amad Diallo’s goal rippled into the back of the net and the roof lifted off of Old Trafford, Garnacho and Fernandes, instead of joining in with their teammates’ celebrations, found each other and embraced before collapsing to the floor in a hug of pure relief and elation.
